If you know how to write programs in any language, it's API use library for direct management hardware.

I tried the API but got a problem. I'm using Windows 7 x64 and I activated the telnet client.
I connect successfully but then I can't call any command. It tries to execute a command on each key pressed.
I attached a screenshot to describe the problem. If I type 'help', it tries to execute commande h, e, l and p.

I did a few tests, I can list profiles and change them but I have one problem.
The method 'getstatus' returns 'status:on' even if my backlights are off. I understood with google translate that this method was giving the status of my lights and that I could switch my lights on/off with 'setstatus'. Am I wrong ?

The only problem I see is the status on the GUI which isn't updated but that's not a big issue.

I love your AmbiBox program, i'm using it for my adalight system, but it's missing a setting that i really need for my project.
On the "Wizard Capture Zones" you have the option "Placement zones" to do "4 sides with overlap in corners" which makes 2 zones on each corner.
Can you add another option to have overlap in corners but with 3 zones on each corner? It would really help me.

I am doing that way for the 3 leds on each corner, but if could have for example led number 30, 31 and 32 overlap each other on exactly the same corner with same size, that would also work.
The option for "4 sides with overlap in corners" only make led 30 and 31 on same corner and i needed 30, 31 and 32 (and like that on the other corners also)

I am using AmbiBox in the latest version on Windows 8 x64 MCE with Lightpack. Everything is running smoothly and I am loving it.
However - everytime I start Windows Media Center (Fullscreen) - AmbiBox freezes and I have to force close it.

Thank you - got it! If it was for me, I would rather use XMBC, but given that I am using a CableCard Tuner for LiveTV (InfiniTV 4) makes it hard for me to use anything other than WMC.
Still - changing the capture mode to PlayClaw somehow crashes AmiBox - anything else there I am missing?

Try to use MediaPortal (www.team-mediaportal.com) it's work with any TV-tunners (analog, cabble, IPTV) and AmbiBox work fine with it in windows 8 mode without any freez (in my HTPC i have a AMD Athlon BE-2300 CPU 1.9GHz and all work fine)

Hi,
For anyone interested, there is a new version of the script/addon for XBMC available (WINDOWS only). It adds some options for displaying a menu of your current AmbiBox profiles at the time a video starts playing for you to pick from or attempting to pick a profile based upon the video files reported display aspect ratio.
There is a PDF with instructions in the zip file. This is NOT simply a plug and play setup. You will still need to configure your profiles in the windows application and to use the automatic switching based on aspect ratio, you will need to edit an XML file. Details, again, are in the PDF.

Hello there,
I recently received my Lightpack and I tried to use AmbiBox with it (since Lightpack's Prismatik Software is still very buggy and very slow). However, AmbiBox is unable to detect the Lightpack it seems. It always just says "Lightpack: not connected" in the bottom left (and "Device status: not connected" within the settings). I am using Windows 7 x64. Is there anything I can do, so that AmbiBox is able to connect to the Lightpack device?

Your ambibox looks very promising ! I would like to use it with a raspberry+Hyperion which supports a boblight server. Do you plan to support Boblight protocol over IP ? That would be a great feature ! Otherwise is it possible to have access to the sourcecode to develop it ?

I've one question:
I recently downloaded AmbiBox 2.1.4. I want to use it with Lightpack, but I always have the problem that AMbiBox won't recognize my Lightpack, I always receive the message "Lightpack: not connected". this problem is only with AmbiBox, with Prismatik it works fine. I already tried to reisntall AmbiBox, but the issue persist.
Is there any way that I can use it?

Ey there, i have a problem with Ambibox.
I launch the strandtest and works perfect, then i launch the ledstream lib and open ambi, so then i put a static background color (green) and it works for about 1-2 sec and then the color changes to red, then green, then red, then green..
And i capture the screen, the leds goes crazy aswell.
And as i said, strandtest works, so Ambi too (since its connected and 'works', badly but works).
Do u know what can happen and how can i fix it?

edit: Tried in my laptop, and it happens the same. I'm start to thinking that can be a bad Arduino Mega or something like that.

Hey there, i am using AtmoWin since a couple of years with MediaPortal.
Now i am switching to XBMC/Kodi and with AtmoWin i have stuttering Live TV.
So i would like to use AmbiBox. Till now without success.
Device is connected but the lights are still off.
My system: Win7 64, SEDU V2 with 68 LEDs.
Currently with AtmoWin everything is working.
SEDU is on COM3 and the box is set to 250000 Baud.
I attach my logs and a screen with my settings.
Any hints?

Yes, in all modes. I switched a couple of times between the different modes.
Also when i try it with XBMC Plugin.
I also tried different FTDI Drivers. Everytime AtmoWin worked, but not AmbiBox :-(

The SEDU is allready set to 250000 Baud. I am writing with the Editor of the SEDU article.
So i think everything seems okay. But why the lights are off?

I would like to report a little bug with Ambibox.
There is a little keyboard lag occurring when Ambibox is running.
I noticed it in Game (Battlefield 4).
Sometimes keystroke would be delayed (Lag/stutter).
For Example: When you double tap a key (W key) to run forward, sometimes the character would not run.
The second keystroke would be delayed (slightly enough to make the run not working), so the character would end up just walking.
I tried to get it on video (It is much easier to see it live)
Bug happen at:

0:12-0:13
0:37-0:38
I would advise to watch the video entirely from the beginning without skipping forward (it mess up with the speed)
and focus on the screen when those time comes (8-9, 12-13, 37-38)

It is very difficult to show on a video, but in live it is very apparent

It is difficult to see on video, but if you try to do a repro with the text document live, i'm sure you will see the lag in keystroke.
This lag seems to happen at some interval
when you play game, if you double tap the key at the specific timing (when the lag occur) then the second key stroke will be delayed (preventing your player to run for example).

Only closing Ambibox fix the problem.
This problem occur regardless of the screen capture method.
Even thought i bought playclaw to try with Ambibox, i realized that it would slow down my fps too much.
So i decided to play games only with static background, but unfortunately,
this keyboard lag happen with all light mode (static background, dynamic background, music plugin, all screen capture)
Only closing ambibox fix it.
If you do the text document repro, i think you can see that this lag happen at specific intervals
I don't know how the software works, or if there is some kind of polling or if the software engine request something from the computer at specific interval.
I tried different USB port, PS/2 port, 3 different keyboard.
I'm using lightpack, but even when if i select paintpack (i don't have a paintpack so it says device not connected), the problem still happen.
This is not a problem on desktop for watching Tv show or movie.
But it would be great if for games only we could have "Static background" working without this lag, so we could games properly.
Unfortunately i don't have another computer to try this on.
It may be a problem on my setup.
If someone else can have a repro of the problem we could know for sure.

also i tried a brand new formated drive with just Windows 8.1 and ambibox.
The delay still happen, if i close ambibox it's fixed.
I think we can rule out conflicting software.
I will try different Bios setting with my motherboard and try see if there is something there, but, by the look of it, it seems that the software create this behavior.
I will try a formated drive with windows 7 this afternoon and see if the bug is there
I will report back with my finding
UPDATE:
I tried windows 7 x64 clean install and the problem is not there (perfectly smooth, no delay with keystroke)
I think the problem is related to Ambibox and windows 8 (8.1) only (the lag is very easy to spot with text document).

Hello. Could you tell me the data format or protocol that is used for Atmoduino mode in AmbiBox? I am unable to get AmbiBox to work with my Atmoduino, and after checking around for problems it seems like the data I'm getting from AmbiBox is not what I am expecting. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, but if you could tell me what data is being sent from the program maybe I can figure it out.

I found the problem! The demonstration app and other things I've seen use a baud rate of 115200, so that's what I was using on my Arduino, without thinking about it. But I saw in your screenshot that you were using 38400, so I tried that and it works perfectly, but it's very slow. Is there any way to increase the rate?

Hello, and thank you for the AmbiBox software, it seems to be the only way for me to get my MadCatz Gaming Lights to work. The problem is, I have Windows 8.1 and the lights turn off automatically after about 1 second if nothing changes the color of the lights.
So when I'm using the Windows 8 capture mode, if nothing happens on the screen, the lights go out and then come back on when something happens. The same goes for PlayClaw 5. If I'm playing something and the screen stays static for ~1 second, the lights turn off. They turn on when something happens. ???
Is there a way you could change the code of AmbiBox so that it keeps sending signals to the lights even if the color of the lights stays the same? That way the lights should stay on all the time.

I have Ambibox working with my WS2801 100 LED strip but the only problem is that instead of Red, Green, Blue, I get the reverse order: Blue, Green, Red. Is there a way to add a function into the Ambibox program so it allows user to reverse the order of the colors?
The code I'm running on Arduino UNO 3 is this http://pastebin.com/TAZMD8qV (http://pastebin.com/TAZMD8qV). I'm sure that the color order can be changed inside the program as well but I'm confused about all those "high" and "low" etc values. So if you could maybe even just help me edit the code to get it working, that would be great. Thanks!

I have a tricky problem and hope that someone can help me:
I'm running adalight with an arduino uno. For games and other fullscreen applications I need to activate Playclaw combinded with Ambibox.
It works on all input devices (DVD, Movie files, games, etc.) except with Blu-Ray Discs.
When I open PowerDVD with a BluRay Disc Playclaw doesn't seem to work and Ambibox doesn't get a signal. Without a Blu-Ray Disc it works fine in PowerDVD.
Can anyone help me or at least tell me where the problem is?

Great product, I have been using this with my light pack with no issue.
However, I have an issue with Windows 8 screen capture Ambibox Capture speed frequently exceeds the maximum FPS setting.
I have set the maximum FPS to 22 (the limit of my new backlight) and Ambibox is frequently hitting 30FPS which causes my light to flicker.
GDI FS Aero does not have this issue.

I'm planning in upgrading my currently installed LED's from 30LED/m Strips to 60LED/m ones and while I'm still waiting for some parts to be delivered I noticed that the Dropdown Menu for the Number of Zones in AmbiBox has a range from 1-300 which will not be enough after the upgrade.
Could we maybe have an Update to AmbiBox increasing the Zone count from 300 to somewhere around 400 or can this somehow be done by the User manually editing a settings file?

All my parts for the 60 LED/m Upgrade have arrived and I could start working on it using only 300 Zones it but if you say you can release an Update in the next few days I'll just wait for it to be perfect with 306 Zones I need.

Not quite sure what the Zone Grouping is you've mentioned but I've successfully tested AmbiBox 2.1.7 with 300 LED's using 3x 120 LED WS2812B Strips hooked up to a Teensy 3.2 on an OctoWS2811 Board.

Thanks to demmax2004 for the AmbiBox Test Update to 400 LED's, working fine!
Like I've already written in my response Email I was fighting an issue where all the LED's on the left side would stay off (https://youtu.be/DGSZGJXpNw4) depending on the Settings used.
This Problem occures whenever is downgraded my Resolution to 3840x2160 for watching Videos without Borders ( on it's sides ) AND while using the Windows 8 capture method.
Using the same Resolution but another capture method, like DirectDraw SRAM no Aero, would have the LED's working fine though with crappy FPS.
Upping the Resoltution to 4096x2160 would have the LED's working fine even under Windows 8 capturer but then I'd have to deal with black borders on it's sides - Meh.
So far, the only way to fix this issue to some degree using the preferred 3840x2160 / Windows 8 capturer combo was by increasing the capture width in the Wizard which was still not ideal as the LED's on the left always remained less colorfull than the ones on the top, right or bottom.
Today I found a solution to this problem on my nVidia Card ( click picture for larger image ):

In the Windows Display Settings I set the resolution to 3840x2160 which will produce Videos without Borders but without the LED's working using the Windows 8 capture method.
In the nVidia Control Panel I then overwrite the resolution for Apps and Games to 4096x2160 causing the LED's to come to life - Now 100% Colorful.
Just thought I'd share this little revelation to you guys =)

These are two points: The Grouping I mean for teh color correction settings - at teh moment you need to go over every LED to set it if you need it to be individual (like fo example you TV is not in teh same distance from the wall on left and right side so you want to adjust the light so it looks teh same on both sides). So when done and you see hm - I need to adjust the colour correction for all Zones too and you set the checkmark "for all zones" all your settings are gone as they are overwritten. If you could group them or make multiple selelction it woudl be easier.
The otehr thing is - I'm usingg APA102 and - it seems that the limtation is 255 LED for my Sedu Board. Also - what I have seen - when you make the Areas for capturing too big you also run into issues - but I can't say if it's a sedu thing or a software.

1. Is my understand correct that only one lightpack supported with Ambibox?
2. If the answer to the above is 'yes', can you recommended a 60-90 LED kit that will work with Ambibox and ships to the UK.

First of all, great product working great with my Lightpack.
I tried to get Ambibox working with second display. I moved the Ambibox capture areas to the second display but Ambibox still captures from the first display.
Windows 10 Pro, display 0: ATI HDMI 1920x1080, display 1: Nvidia HDMI 1920x1080
I have an interesting use case. I try to steal the display data directly from the HDMI cable using HDMI splitter supporting HDCP. From the second splitter output I convert the HDMI data to analog video, from analog video I take the display data back to PC using USB video input capture device. Video input is then shown on the second display (which is actually not connected) using MPC-HC. For this I need Ambibox to capture from the second display. That is not working now with by setup.

I am building a new Ambilight myself as well, I would love to get a copy of the 400 Zone AmbiBox application.
I have the Teensy 3.2 and OcotWS2811 board all ready, and a Hex Core 4GHz Windows Box that should be able to handle the load.
Could I obtain a copy of this 400 Zone Ambibox?
